Alyson Ainsworth, DVM

Dr. Ainsworth was born and raised in Charlottesville and was hooked on horses from a young age. She took lessons and showed locally starting at age 10. While attending UVA, she joined the polo club and played with the varsity team. In 2012, she graduated from Virginia Tech’s Veterinary Program with a focus in equine medicine. She went on to an internship at the Atlantic Veterinary College in Canada the following year. For the next six years, she worked in general practice at Valley Equine Associates in West Virginia. There she worked primarily on Thoroughbred racehorses and broodmares as well as a variety of showing and riding horses. She moved back to Charlottesville in 2019 and has since started Afton Mountain Equine.

In her free time, she enjoys trail riding her two former Virginia Polo ponies and volunteering with Aftercare Charles Town, a non-profit that re-homes racehorses after they retire from racing.
